When it can be called art. Old Skool Nashville

It seems like most of the "art" driven Graf in this town has died. Most of what you see is highschool white collar richkids throwing up some cheapass tag. Just to be cool because they saw Banksy or Shep pull some shit. None of them actually try to be artists. Back in the day there was a few around town that had skills and made actual "street art". this was before I moved here, so I had to do some digging. One of the images above is by Revok who was featured in Juxtapoz a few issues back. I love seeing skills like this and not latin crew shit that looks like it was written by a caveman.
I found this dandy site

Cherri Wood

ok one of the PeEs sent me a post and while looking at the shit, i found an artist by the name of Cherri Wood, and holy crap if i didnt need to spend money on other people now. I love this print

Cherri Wood is a young illustrator based in Mid Western region of the US. She primarily works with watercolours and does a plethora of ink studies focusing on the dialogue of angst, idiosyncrasies, alienation, and psychosis.

Each work consists of a solitary figure slowly disintegrating in to the empty white space surrounding it. She makes these drawings in black and white with faint traces of washed-out muted colours as well as shadows and ghastly shapes behind the figure to create an atmospheric effect in the piece. She constantly studies the effects of stains and splatter effects of different materials such as condiments.

She is very influenced by film, photography and comic art. The elements that she absorbs from a film, or graphic novel reflect heavily on her illustrations

HUSH

Hush is back with his brand new print 'Love/Hate' it is a 3 colour screenprint which has been hand customised with Acrylic and Spray paint, Ink, Marker and Tea.

The pics below aren't the release

Brad won't allow us to post release dates, so we can only inform. The new print by HUSH will be coming out very shortly. This dude's style is fresh and has the Asian appeal so many of the street writers are looking at these days.

The Evens

Ok so I saw the Evens last Friday. I thought there would be less than 15 people there given the short notice, but to my shock, i think there were over 100. Imagine an industrial area and a garage for a bus and you will have the perfect picture of the venue because thats what it was. The lighting consisted of shop lights strung on the wall and two floor lamps from a living room. The PA and stage were good, and The Evens were simply awesome. Few shows make me say "damn that was a good show" these days, and this one of them that filled that void Ive had for years now. only $5 to get in, no opening act and started just about on time (slight delay because of train). thats how shit should be. Ian didnt do any Fugazi songs which was anticipated but all the Evens songs were badass. Ill post more later but if you werent there, I hate it for ya

Some kids trying to drum up some HYPE

WW22D?
The kids at WW22D? would like you to make your own posters, stencils, buttons, flyers, or whatever and get the word out.
Make WW22D? your avatar. Anyway, they had some people donate some images you can use or you can make your own.
Basically this is an idea to get the word out and hype for the Predators. Its to get people to notice shit and make shit happen, get more asses in the seats.
you can find whatever here

vinyl cds

From MIA and WIRED

You wanna be on the new cutting edge?

"The idea for last week's Listening Post column, which examined the strange demand for vinyl records in the digital age, was inspired to a small extent by Optimal Media Production's vinyl/CD hybrid, which is just like a normal CD except that on the top, it has vinyl grooves etched in. Place a VinylDisc on your turntable, drop the needle at the start of the track, and you'll hear up to 3.5 minutes of music at 33 RPM.

Since CDs have a hole at their center that's too large to fit on a vinyl spindle, you'll need to use the little rubber adapter that comes with each disc to center the disc on your record player; otherwise, it'll go off-center and you'll hear the music speed up and slow down with each revolution.

As for the overall sound quality, I just finished giving the vinyl side of a Sonic Kollectiv VinylDisc compilation a spin, and it sounded decent -- not as good as 180 gram, but certainly good enough to warrant consideration from bands and labels looking to offer something new to their customers: a CD that everyone can play, with a secret bonus track in the grooves on top for those who have record players.

Other weird offerings from Optimal Media Production include etched vinyl, perfumed CDs, and a partially metallized disc that makes "specially chosen images float through the room, seemingly three-dimensional and extraordinarily vivid."
